How to Make the S-linked Necklace
To make the S link, the following materials are needed: exactly two inches of wire, beads, and the round nose, cutter, and chain link needle nose pliers.
To form the S link, use the chain link needle nose wire and the two-inch wire. Grab at the tip of the wire and start to spiral the wire around the tip of the pliers by maintaining a distance from the epicenter of the pliers. Use the guidance of your finger to have it lined up and stop the spiral at the midline. After this spiral is done, do the same steps for the opposite side in the reverse direction. After both spirals of the S- link are finished, use the pliers to flatten it. To flatten the link more, use a hammer to create a flattened look as well as to harden the wire. When hammering and spreading action is created, tighten the link by grabbing the inner piece and coil it to achieve a tighter coil. After hammering the wire, make a few more links following the same guidelines.
Next step is making the bone, which requires a wire of about four inches in length. To begin, position the round nose pliers at about an inch from the end of the wire. Bend the wire out at approximately a 45-degree angle then reposition the wire on the short length of the 45 degree angle and bend the wire around the pliers round jaw. Next, position the wire cutter around the loop that was made and cut off the excess. After the first loop is made, add a bead to the wire. Next, take the round nose pliers and bend the wire about 45 degrees a little bit away from the bead and bend it over the round jaw of the pliers. Then take the flat side of the wire nipper, and place it against the loop of the wire and cut off the excess wire. Take the flat nose to flatten the link. To add the S-link to the bone, use the pliers to slightly open the bone by swinging the loop side to side. Next place the S-link into the loop and then close the bone back with the pliers.
The necklace should have the same amount of S-links and bones. Once all of the S-links are attached to the bones, the necklace should end with a bone on each side. To create the fish hook clasp, use a wire of about 6 inches and use the flat nose wire to crimp the top and then use the flat nose to create the loop. Then gently flatten the wire. Using same method when building the bone, bend at a 45-degree angle then cut off the excess. Then cut off the excess wire. After this, attach the hook to the necklace. Finally end with a figure eight link to attach to the clasp and finish the necklace.
